Tickweed (Fertility Herb)


Tickweed, a West African wild plant gathered  for local use as a food and medicine. It’s leaves and young shoots are cooked as a vegetable. Its very bitter in taste. A sharp mustard-like flavour.
The plant is used as a stimulant in food in order to improve the appetite.
Chewing the leaves improves and boosts a woman’s chances of becoming Pregnant.
The leaves are used as an external application to treat Wounds and Ulcers;
Relieve Rheumatism; and to act as a counter-irritant to treat Herpes infections. The juice of the leaves has been used to relieve Earache.
Decoction from the leaves is used as an expectorant and Digestive stimulant to treat conditions such as Colic and Dysentery.
A decoction from the seed is used to treat Rheumatism, Gonorrhoea, Diarrhoea and Dysentery. In excess the seeds can cause Flatulence and Distension of the Stomach.
Also use to wash and treat Piles and a paste of the root is applied externally in the treatment of Earaches.

PREPARATION: Boil 3 cups of water. Turn of the fire. Use a small handful of the dried herb and add it to the boiled water to steep for at least 30 minutes.
